A CLEANER FINISH STARTS WITH BETTER GUIDANCE

Give Your Door Latch a Clean, Flush Fit

Take the guesswork out of shaping your latch plate recess. This Door Latch Mortising Jig helps guide a compatible router for a neatly defined recess in your wooden door edge.

Position. Clamp. Rout. Fit.

Less Freehand Guesswork. A More Controlled Recess.

A latch plate that sits proud of the door edge can leave your installation looking unfinished. Shaping its recess by hand takes careful work—and repeated trimming can make a simple job frustrating.

The template provides a defined guide for routing the faceplate recess, helping you work toward a tidy fit with less reliance on freehand shaping.

Guide the Cut. Refine the Finish.

The rectangular template opening helps define the latch plate outline while you guide your compatible router through the cut.

Defined Template Guidance

Helps control the recess outline for a cleaner-looking installation.

Clamp-On Positioning

The side screw knob tightens the jig against a compatible door edge to hold its position during setup and routing.

A Flush-Fitting Goal

With the correct cutting depth, the recess allows the latch plate to sit level with the surrounding door edge.

Check Your Latch Plate Size

1" × 2-1/4"

Marked latch plate size: approximately 25.4 × 57.15 mm.

Compare your latch plate dimensions and corner shape before ordering. This marking refers to the latch plate size, not the supported door thickness.

A Straightforward Route to a Neater Fit

01 — Mark & Align

Mark the latch position on the door edge and align the template with the required faceplate location.

02 — Clamp & Set

Secure the jig and set your compatible router and bit to the correct cutting depth for your latch plate.

03 — Rout the Recess

Guide the router along the template using the appropriate setup and operating instructions for your equipment.

04 — Check & Install

Remove the jig, clear the chips, and check the faceplate fit before completing the latch installation.

A Practical Addition to Your Door Installation Tools

For woodworkers, home improvement enthusiasts, and installers who want guided control when preparing matching latch plate recesses.

Preparing a matching latch plate recess in a wooden door.
Working toward a neat, flush faceplate finish.
Repeating the same compatible recess profile across multiple installations.

Before You Start

Does this jig cut the recess by itself?

No. It is a positioning and routing guide. A compatible router and suitable cutting bit are required.

Does it drill all the holes needed for a door lock?

Its main purpose is to guide the shallow latch faceplate recess. Lock and latch bore holes require separate drilling operations.

Will it fit every door and latch?

Compatibility depends on the door thickness, latch plate dimensions, corner profile, and router setup. Check these details before ordering.

Does the template automatically set the depth?

No. Cutting depth is set on your router to match the faceplate thickness. Test your setup on suitable scrap material before working on the door.
